Open Photoshop and open your image. I am using this photo of some art from "BIG CHICK" |

Edit the photo if you need to then go to File » Save for Web |

On the right hand side click Image Size.
I've used JPEG High but you can use a different settings. |

For the width change it to whatever you want it to be to fit on your site:
If you have Constrain Proportions ticked it will automatically change the height. |

Click Save type a new filename and press Save again. Now you have a smaller picture that is web friendly.
